The UPLB Mathematical Sciences Society (UPLB MASS) is set to commemorate its 51st Anniversary Week with a series of captivating events that honor its long-standing commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and camaraderie. Themed “Glitz and Glam: A MASSive Legacy in Retrospect,” this year’s celebration will take place from April 7–11, 2025, blending nostalgia with innovation as it revisits the early 2000s aesthetic while reflecting on the organization’s enduring impact.
Established in 1973, UPLB MASS has grown into a dynamic academic organization that unites students from diverse mathematical science disciplines, including BS Mathematics, BS Applied Mathematics, BS Computer Science, BS Statistics, and BS Mathematics and Science Teaching – Major in Mathematics. The society remains at the forefront of promoting the relevance of mathematical sciences in education, research, and societal development, fostering a deep appreciation for the power of mathematics in shaping the world around us.
The 51st Anniversary Week will feature a captivating lineup of diverse activities aimed at engaging students, faculty, and the broader UPLB community. Highlights include the Student-Teacher (ST) Quiz, a thrilling intellectual challenge that promote collegiality between students and professors alike; the George Hunt, a campus-wide scavenger hunt where participants track down the organization’s beloved mascot, George; the MASSter Tutorials, where members share their expertise and mentor fellow UPLB students; and the IntraMASS, a bonding activity that fosters camaraderie among the society’s residents and alumni.
In addition to these engaging events, the celebration will also feature an Exhibit that showcases the organization’s rich history, allowing attendees to have a glimpse of UPLB MASS’ legacy. Moreover, the Open Tambayan and Outreach Program further reinforce the society’s commitment to giving back to the community, providing opportunities for members to connect and make a positive impact on the lives of others.
