A fresh era for Filipino original music on the global stage
The Philippines has long been known as the world’s karaoke capital—but this year, it’s rewriting history. For the first time ever, the Karaoke World Championships (KWC) is opening a Singer-Songwriter category, and all eyes are on the Philippines as Jerico Jamisola takes center stage with his original track, Seasons.
Jamisola isn’t your typical karaoke champ hopeful. Known as “Teacher Jec” to his students, the vocal coach, recording artist, and music entrepreneur has built a career shaping voices and creating music that tells real stories. A graduate of Philippine Women’s University with a degree in Music and Music Technology, he’s lent his vocals to commercials like the SMART ad for the 2019 SEA Games, performed for political events and TV campaigns, and even made waves internationally as a finalist in Asian Top Band in South Korea.
But now, with Seasons, he’s not just performing—he’s telling his own story. The track is a soulful meditation on the highs and lows of life, wrapping universal truths in poignant melodies. With lines like “Sometimes we rise, sometimes we fall, but don’t forget to rise again, try again,” Jerico delivers an anthem of resilience that feels both intimate and larger-than-life.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. Global audiences are already tuning in to Filipino artists who are making waves with their own compositions. Think Maki’s heartfelt ballads, Dionela’s poetic verses, or SB19’s chart-dominating, self-written anthems. With Seasons, Jerico steps into that same creative lineage, proving that Filipinos aren’t just world-class singers—they’re world-class storytellers in music.
And this is personal. Outside the spotlight, Jerico runs Paglikha School of Music and Arts, a homegrown hub for nurturing young creatives in music, production, and the performing arts. The name Paglikha—which means “to create”—isn’t just branding; it’s the beating heart of his mission to empower the next generation of musicians.
As KWC makes this bold pivot to celebrate original music, Jerico Jamisola isn’t just entering a competition—he’s planting the Filipino flag in uncharted territory. If karaoke is where Filipinos first conquered the world stage, songwriting might just be where we redefine it.
With Seasons, Jerico reminds us that every rise, fall, and comeback is just part of life’s rhythm. And if there’s one thing the Philippines knows how to do—it’s turning those rhythms into unforgettable music.
